No wonder you have read or watched Alice in Wonderland over and over. It’s a beautiful story. Isn’t it? We were in a dilemma our entire childhood whether we were in love with her or envied her for her adventures in Wonderland and then we grew up. We explored life. We explored wonderland.
It’s a story of a Girl who chases a speaking rabbit down the rabbit hole and ends up in this mystical world called Wonderland. Considering the fact that children’s stories are full of fantasy it’s definitely one of the masterpieces ever produced. Having said that, when adult minds started connecting the dots between the mysteries and mythical characters the psychedelic undertones couldn’t be ignored. The 60’s Psychedelic band Jefferson Airplane hinted it in their 1967 song
And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call
And call Alice, when she was just small
When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low
These theories were also considered very believable because it was written during an era when drug consumption was prevalent not really because Caroll himself was under the influence. However, mentions in his diaries justified that he occasionally enjoy a glass of wine and probably had Laudanum ingested in his body also might have infused opiate infused material. Though there’s no pointing out of him using psychedelics in his personal journals and that Adventures of Alice were inspired by hallucinogens.
Irrespective of major disapproval and contradictions various experts and artists still believe in the psychedelic renditions of this classic. Various songs, articles, theories and campaigns in favour and against the belief has managed to live through the years and decades till today.
We’ll definitely love to know your version of Alice in Wonderland. No matter how crazy or psychedelic it is we’ll definitely love to hear your rendition.
Wishing you a very happy Easter in advance guys. We are going on a rabbit chase this weekend. Are you also planning go down a rabbit hole?
